Standing with our beneficiaries—not only in the classroom, but in moments when they need us most.
Fazinni, near Balshie | September 2026
For a child, an ordinary day can change in a matter of hours.
Earlier today, Kokolana Foundation received an urgent call from the parent of one of our beneficiaries, KF/EDU/2026006, informing us that the child was unwell and needed medical attention.
The call immediately triggered concern among members of the Foundation. Recognising the seriousness of the situation, members of the team, including the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), quickly made their way to Fazinni, a community near Balshie, to see the beneficiary and help ensure that she received the appropriate care.
A Race to Get Her Help
When the Foundation team arrived, the beneficiary had already been taken to the community’s CHPS Compound for medical attention.
Health personnel informed the team that she had tested positive for malaria and that the condition was severe. She had also experienced convulsions, making the situation particularly concerning.
The health workers immediately attended to her and provided the necessary initial management.
Following the assessment and treatment at the CHPS Compound, the beneficiary was referred to the Tamale Regional Hospital (Tamale Central Hospital) for further medical care and monitoring.
For the Foundation team, the priority at that moment was simple: getting the child the care she needed.
A Beneficiary Is Never Just a Number
Cases such as this remind us of an important principle behind the work of Kokolana Foundation.
A beneficiary is never simply a name, a file or a serial number.
Behind KF/EDU/2026006 is a child with dreams, a family with hopes and a future worth protecting.
Our responsibility therefore does not end when educational materials are delivered or when a child is enrolled into our support programme. We believe meaningful child support must consider the whole child, their education, health, nutrition, safety, emotional wellbeing and family circumstances.
This is at the heart of the Kokolana EduCare and Nutrition Initiative.
Responding When It Matters
The emergency also highlights the importance of communication between beneficiary families and the Foundation.
Because the parent reached out promptly, members of the Foundation were able to respond, travel to the community and help facilitate access to further medical care.
It is moments like these that remind us that community-based support is not only about planned interventions. Sometimes, it is about being available when an unexpected situation occurs.
Sometimes, it is about answering the phone.
Sometimes, it is about travelling to a community.
And sometimes, it is simply about standing beside a family when they are frightened and uncertain about what comes next.
Gratitude to the Health Workers
Kokolana Foundation extends its appreciation to the health personnel at the CHPS Compound for their prompt attention and initial management of the beneficiary’s condition.
We also acknowledge the importance of the referral process that allowed the child to be taken to the Tamale Regional Hospital for further care.
Our thoughts remain with the beneficiary and her family as she continues to receive medical attention.
Our Commitment Remains
Kokolana Foundation was established with a commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable children and families.
That commitment means being present not only during moments of celebration, but also during moments of uncertainty and difficulty.
We will continue to follow up with the family and monitor the beneficiary’s progress as she receives further medical care.
We sincerely hope and pray for her recovery and a return to good health.
Because at Kokolana Foundation, every child matters. Every life matters. Every dream matters.
And when a child needs us, we show up.
DREAMS MADE REAL
Our work is guided by a simple conviction: children deserve the opportunity to learn, grow, dream and succeed.
Through the dedication of our team, the cooperation of beneficiary families, the support of our partners and the generosity of our supporters, we remain committed to turning that conviction into action.
